Revolver or Semi-auto for a Woman?

A wife comes to her Husband one day and informs him that she wants to buy a handgun for herself since she is home by herself most of the day. The husband roll’s his eyes and that following Saturday they head down to the local gun store to look at handgun for her. They browse the semi-auto handguns and the revolvers.

The husband does not think that the semi-autos will fit his wife. The husband and wife thinks that they are to scary, complicated, and to hard to learn to shoot for a woman. So after some time and some advice from the gun store the couple walk out of the store with a small revolver that is chambered in a .38 Special.

They take it out and she shoots it a few times and then it ends up in the dresser drawer never to be seen again. With both of them thinking that it was the perfect fit for her.

I disagree! I personally think a woman would be just fine with a semi-auto handgun, especially with a striker fire handgun. People right now are screaming it is to hard to hard!!! No it is not. And this is why I think this.

A revolver has basically three mechanics that a person need to know:

  1. Cylinder release

  2. Ejector rod

  3. Trigger

A semi-auto handgun has basically four mechanics some have three:

      1. Magazine release

      2. Slide stop

      3. Trigger

      4. And most a safety lever

1. Most revolver hold 5 rounds of ammo in it. Most semi-auto hold from 10-15 rounds of ammo in a magazine. So right there you are doubling you ammo in your gun. And it is also easier to change one larger item in a gun than 5 little ones. Handguns are made in different sizes just like revolvers and most compact handguns are almost the same size as revolvers. But again doubling your ammo in the gun.

2.The trigger pull on most revolvers is around 12 lbs. As a striker fire handgun is around 5-6 lbs.. Most woman struggle with the revolvers heavy trigger pull, because most women have smaller and weaker hands than men. A striker fire has a lighter trigger pull and easier to keep on target.

3. If you choose a gun with a safety lever on it that has to be manipulated to fire, remember guns are machines just like cars and need to be maintained to work right. Safeties on weapons can fail and not work right. So you need to be your own safety and remember never put your finger on the trigger unless your ready to shoot!

4.A quality handgun also plays a part here. If you buy the cheapest thing that you can find then you will have problems with it, but if you choose a quality gun and not worry about the price you will be better of.

I am amazed sometimes that people will spend thousand of dollars on electronics that break and wear out in a couple of years and then go and buy the cheapest gun that they could find for self preservation in a time of need. Then complain about the $100 special that they bought!

5. Train with your gun, and be the master of the weapon and not the slave.

I personally like the GLOCK's handguns they are affordable easy to operate and easy to learn to shoot. People will tell you that they are unsafe because they do not have a safety lever. Revolvers don’t have a safety also. So are they unsafe also?

That leaves us with three mechanics that we need learn just like the revolver.
